What's this yellow, round bump on my pit bull's back? Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 84 lbs

I took my dog (pit bull) to the vet for several yellowish looking bumps. She said she had pit bulls and these was very common in that breed and they was skin tags. They would eventually go away. The one he has on his back has pushed thru his fur and is round and yellow looking. It’s probably the size of a nickel. Does not look like what I think of a skin tag

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I agree that they do not sound like skin tags. These could be benign or malignant growths. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good night!
