My 7-week-old puppy constantly nips. How do I stop this behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bully | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 22 days old | 66 lbs

This is Hendrix. He is 7 weeks old and constantly nips and I was wondering how to correct it. I always keep a toy handy and I hand it to him when he nips. And he chases feet and tugs pants legs although its found to be 'cute' I know it is unwanted behavior and I don't want him thinking its ok.Although I was told he is 'pitbull' all evidence I have researched points to him being dogo argentino and american bulldog (Scotts). I have watched how he acts and he seems to have strong herd &prey drive.

Hendrix is super cute! I would recommend starting with some basic commands. Start with sit, come and stay multiple times through the day with treats as rewards. Most dogs at this age will only pay attention for a small amount of time, even minutes, than as they get older continue to do the training but increase the amount of time per day. Also when Hendrix bites you can say no and replace it with something that should be chewed on. hope this helps
