My dog just got spayed, how many hours do I have to wait for me to feed her?

I recommend to wait 6-8 hours after the time of the procedure. Also only feed half the amount. If she eats it all and acts like she's still hungry, wait an hour to feed the rest. Also, don't worry if Lexi doesn't eat tonight. Many times they are too tired and out of it. Hope you have a good evening.

    If Skye just got spayed, don't be surprised if her appetite is low or gone the night after surgery. That can be normal. Offer her a small meal at dinnertime, and then offer her her normal meal in the morning. She should be fed twice a day, morning and evening. Best of luck.

My corgi/mini aussie is getting spayed today, and I'm wondering if I should change her diet at all. Normally she gets about a cup of Purina puppy food a day, should I decrease the amount?
Great question! In general, there should be no reason that you would need to change her diet after her spay. She may not be as hungry as usual this evening since she may be sore and still a bit sleepy from the anesthesia, so I would suggest feeding her about half of her normal dinner tonight. Starting the following day, it should be fine for her to go back to her normal amount of food :)

Occasionally after spaying, dogs will have no appetite for the first 12-24 hours. In the meantime, take a look at her incision site. If it is red, swollen and hot to the touch, she needs to see your veterinarian right away as these symptoms may indicate infection. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concern! If she is alert and recovered well from her procedure, I would say it would be safe to give her 1/2 the amount she normally gets at meal time and see how she does. If she keeps this down ok after an hour, you can give her the other 1/2 amount. After this, she should be absolutely fine to eat her normal portions and at her regular feeding time. We normally like withholding food post-operatively because anesthesia tends to slow down motility in the intestines and sometimes this can cause dogs to vomit. I hope this helps! My cat has been spayed this morning around 10am, now its 14.40pm, I have forgotten to ask my vet whether or not I could give her water and food. She has thrown up 3 times, the vet said that it is normal and she is now still recovering from the anesth
It can take up to 12hours, depending on the anesthesia used and the length of the surgery. I would recommend to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. You can give her water. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

I suggest trying some different types of foods. You can try sing things like chicken, cooked rice or noodles, cooked eggs, etc and mix them in with her regular food. You need to entice her to eat with something very tasty that she likes. If she is currently taking any medications you should call your vet to see if she needs to continue taking them. The onesies may be uncomfortable or stressful for her. Try taking them off at feeding time. Watch her closely though so she doesn't get to her incision. You can also warm her food slightly or mix in a teaspoon of plain baby food to stimulate the appetite.

Hello and thank you for your question. Masha my hold her bowels for 24 hours without a lot of problem. She should have urinate within 12 hours. Call the veterinarian and ask if they took her out to urinate. That will give you an idea of time. Also ask if she received IV fluids during the procedure. Pets that get these fluids often don't really drink at home that first night because their body go fluids. Do make sure to discuss the urination as well. As long as she is under the influence, she probably won't go to the bathroom but still take her out every couple hours and give her to opportunity. If there is a favorite spot to go that is not a walk to get to, go there first. Offer her half her normal amount of food tonight and don't be too worried if she doesn't eat. Make sure to give her pain meds as directed. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Had dog spayed 4 days ago on Tuesday was fine until Thursday teatime then wouldn't eat or drink and lethargic was better today still not eating but drinking but now started being sick
