Why is my dog licking excessively after recent tooth extraction?

Hi, my name is Aaron Raichura. I am thinking about rescuing a 4 year old Maltese/Poodle namer Snickers. Snickers recently had about 20 teeth exctracted. Since his teeth have been extracted he has been licking excessively. He eats, sleeps, and plays just fine. He doesn’t seem to be in any pain. What do you think is causing the licking?

Snickers is a cutie! I would ask if he has been checked since he had all the teeth removed? The doctor needs to make sure all the extraction sites are healed and there is no inflammation present indicating there could be a problem. If he has not been examined recently, I would recommend to have him checked. Some dogs will like excessively once the teeth are removed. Being that he is a long haired little dog, it could also be that the hair is now sticking in his mouth. Keep the hair trimmed short around his mouth. Also check his lips to make sure you don't see any infection or redness. I hope this helps!
