My new puppy threw up, now won't eat. Vet says stress, should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 20 days old | 4 lbs

Hello, I just bought a puppy on Monday. When I first got her, I drove her home and she threw up all the food she had ate. Now, she will not eat anything. We have tried chicken broth, canned food, and warming her food. She has not ate anything yet. She is drinking water and acting like a normal puppy besides eating. Should I be worried? She went to the vet yesterday and the vet said it is just stress and she is scared. I just wanted a second opinion.

Hello. I am a bit concerned that your veterinarian was not worried that Millie has not eaten anything in 24 hours. This may be stress, but if she does not eat anything by tomorrow, then I would revisit with your vet, & perhaps ask to purchase a critical care food that is administered easily by a syringe. You may need to feed your puppy for a few days to make sure she is getting some calories, & if there is no underlying illness, she should start eating on her own. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
