Why is my dog suddenly aggressive when I touch his leg or belly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | neutered | 1 year and 11 months old

My Rottweiler who is 2 next month barks aggressively at me when I try pat him on his belly near his left leg. He's never done anything slightly aggressive to me but has started to bark & lung at me which is very out of character. Is he only acting like this because he might be injured? Or does he not like me anymore?

Since this is so out of character for him he certainly could be injured. If a dog is hurting in a specific spot, they will sometimes becomes hypersensitive in that area. They will sometimes become aggressive. I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and start him on pain meds if needed. You may also have to put him in a short course of anti-anxiety meds until he feels better. Your vet will also be able to do X-rays if needed. I hope this helps!
