My dog is confused and drooling after a seizure. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | neutered | 4 years and 4 months old | 17 lbs

My dog, Jasper, has seizures every once in a while. No matter how bad it is, within ten minutes or so of it ending, he's completely fine. This time, he's acting weird and drooling very thick and foamy saliva and won't sometimes make eye contact or look at me for long, and he hasn't licked me very much, something both of my epileptic dogs both do for a long time to cheer up. I'm not sure what's wrong with him, or if anything is at all. But it's very concerning.

I am so sorry Jasper has seizures and is acting strange. It sounds like he may be in the "post ictal" phase, which occurs after a seizure when they can act confused and abnormal. It is also possible he is having mini seizures still that are causing his change in behavior. I would recommend you take Jasper to your vet as soon as possible to be evaluated and possibly treated. He likely needs to have blood work done to see if there is any underlying abnormalities that could be contributing or causing these problems. He also likely needs to be started on anti-seizure medication to decrease the frequency and even hopefully eliminate these seizures. Seizures in dogs certainly can be quite scary to watch and I hope Jasper is feeling more like himself very soon.
