What's this dry, flaky spot on my cat that isn't painful or itchy?

I am wondering about a dry flaky almost calis spot on my cat. It's not painful, or itchy. No hair loss, or excessive itching or biting

There are several things that could cause this. If it is in the location of a joint like an elbow then this could be a callous from laying on hard surfaces and nothing to worry about. Otherwise, this could be a fungal infection (ringworm), a bacterial infection, or simply allergies or dry skin. I would have your vet take a look at it so they can recommend the best oral meds if needed to help her improve. You could also try to bathe her with an oatmeal based shampoo to see if it improves.     This can be a ringworm, a skin infection, or an abrasion if he rubbed his nose against something being curious. You can place a small amount of neosporin on it if needed. If it gets larger or does not go away after a few days, then I would see your vet for further treatment

Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics) or medicated shampoos. I just noticed my tuxedo cat has a small balding spot on the outer hind leg about an 1 1/2" in diameter. There are a couple small scars in the bald area but they look completely healed and not red or irritated. Around the bald spot there's dry peelin
This could be many things on Tipsy's leg. Bacterial infections, allergies, ringworm and fleas would be the most likely to cause this. Less likely would be something like an abscess from a cat bite. When in doubt, I always say to make an appointment to see her veterinarian, who may be able to give a more exact answer based on the physical exam. Many times very superficial lesions will go away on their own. If she does not seem to be itching it, you may monitor it for a week and see what happens. If it gets worse or doesn't go away, take her in. Hope this helps!

Hello! it could be a skin infection or an allergic reaction, it could also be ringworm (fungal infection) , if it doesn't seem to be getting better within a week, i would recommend having it checked aby your vet

My cat has a small bald, flaky spot just above his eye. I noticed it about 24 hours ago. It doesn't seem to be bothering him. I am wondering if this is something that will require an in person vet visit or medication. What may have caused it? Does
I would recommend a vet visit. There is a possibility that this could be ringworm which is a contagious fungal infection. It may just be a scratch or abrasion but the vet can look at it and determine if further testing or treatment is needed.

This is likely a local skin infection. If it is in the area where you put topical flea prevention, it could be a reaction to that. Since the hair and skin is coming off so readily, I would have your vet take a look soon to ensure he doesn't need any antibiotics to help prevent it from spreading or getting worse. my cat (siberian) has recently strayed to flake a lot - she has been combed more than usual but i worry it is something else. she does have a flea allergy which does make her skin itchy but this is the first time she has been so flaky. any idea?
Hi and thanks for your question! Flaky skin around the head and ears could be the result of constant itching of those areas due to flea allergy or another cause may be ring worn which typically presents in flaky round patches on the head and neck. If it does not improve soon then it if worth a trip to the vet for a skin scrape and fungal culture. Hope this has helped!

I have a 2 year old calico and shes had this patch of skin weres she lost hair. Ita not red or irrated and she honestly done groom or lick at it. Looking at it i can tell its a bit dry im not sure what it is or if i should be concerned. Im sure its
Good on you for treating Calie with flea medication even though she is indoor only! Many owners do not realize that indoor cats can still get fleas, as they can be brought inside by owners. As for this missing patch of skin. It could be that she suffered some trauma to the area causing the hair loss. It is interesting that it hasn't gotten smaller or bigger, and that it's not red or irritated. She could also just have dry skin. You can try adding some Vitamin E supplements to her food to see if that helps with the dry patch. If it remains, I would have Calie seen by a vet just to have the area examined. I'm not concerned about it from your description, but it's always good to have any strange patches of missing hair examined by a vet.

My cat has a rough and bumpy patch below her ear. There are white speckles present. Is this cat dandruff? She doesn't seem to be scratching it excessively and it doesn't appear to even phase her. It's only bothering me. I don't want to run to the vet
Unfortunately, without seeing it in person, I can't say for certain what is causing this rough and bumpy patch beneath Shiki's ear. I can say that if she is scratching below her ear, that can be a sign of an ear infection, and I do think she should see a vet for it. Ear infections in cats can be caused by ear mites, yeast, or bacteria, and can only be treated by medications from the vet. I recommend having Shiki seen by a vet tomorrow to diagnose if she does have an ear infection, and to get medications to treat it if she does. It's important to treat any ear infection promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss.

Hi, my outdoor cat came home tonight and I noticed a bold spot of around 3cm in diameter on his back. The skin seems to be fine, not infected, red, dry, itchy or scaly. He is not bothered about it, doesn't lick, he is behaving as normal, no lethargy
That spot Bazi could be several things including fleas, allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection, ringworm (which humans can get) or a fight (fur ripped out). There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesion once a day with a hypoallergenic wipe. Also protect the area from trauma. If the lesion does not start improving within a week or if it is getting worse, have him examined by the veterinarian. My cat has a bald spot with a red dot on his arm/elbow should I be concerned
This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Ellie regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.
