My rat Nym has grown a swelling on the side of her cheek. It is hard to the touch & there are no open wounds. She is acting perfectly normal. Her sister had a tooth abscess about a month ago & this doesn't seem to be the same thing (from what I can observe). The swelling has developed only over the past day. She is about 3 years old now, so she is quite old & I'm afraid putting her under would cause more harm than help. She does not seem like she is in pain. What do you suggest?

I would still recommend to have Nym checked out to let the doctor feel the area. I would also be about a mass but an abscess could still be possible. After the doctor determines what it is, then you can discuss the safety of sedation for a little rat her age. I hope this helps!
