My polydactyl kitten has a split claw she keeps licking. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 3 months and 16 days old

Hello. We have recently received our main coon kitten. She is polydactyl, 15 weeks old. We are concerned about one of her claws which seems to split into 2 at the end. It doesnt seem to bother her until shr starts purring and then constantly needs to be licking it. Is this something that needs to be removed or treated?

This definitely has potential to cause irritation and possibly infections in the future, so removal may be necessary at some point. The fact that she is excessively licking it does indicate that there is some degree of discomfort/pain, but it doesn't seem to be causing any big problems at this time. However, if it does become very inflamed, or infected, then it will be much more difficult to surgically remove it; so it may be better to remove it sooner rather than later. I recommend scheduling an appointment with your vet and discussing potential options. They will be able to have a better look at this toe and can recommend the best course of action. I hope that helps and all is well with Mamoute.
