My cat has a red, smelly, draining ear bump. Does she need a vet?

Hello there, I have a cat I found last night out in the cold and she seems to have a problem with her ear. There is a red bump deep in her ear about the size of a pea and it seems to be infected. It smells and she has scabbing along the edge of the ear, it almost seems to be draining or something but I’m not sure. We have been applying antibiotic ear drops and spraying Vetaracin on it to try and help, it seems like it has a bit but I want to make sure i know if she needs to see a vet. Thanks!

Yes you should take Lani to your veterinarian for an exam. You are doing a good job with your care but I don’t like the look of that red area in the ear from the picture. They will check to see if there’s something in the ear causing the problem and can treat the growth and ear infection. She could have a mass that will need to be removed. This looks uncomfortable so continue with your treatment but get her in soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Lani.
