Is my collared dove's hunched back and dropped tail normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 4 days old | 0.3 lbs

Hi, my 10 week old collared dove let's his tail hang down and hunches his back when resting/napping on some places (not everywhere and not all the the time, places like the too of the door or my knee) his sister is the same age and doesn't do this as much as he does. He is very active, eats well and his poops look healthy. He's even flirting with the female a lot so he doesn't seem to be in pain.

It may just be a normal behavior for him/more comfortable to relax in that position if Maxi seems otherwise happy and healthy. However, if he's having any trouble perching, or does start to show signs of illness, it's always best to schedule a vet visit to rule out any health issues.
