My dog is sleepy and not eating after Cerenia. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Female | spayed | 3 years and 5 months old | 46 lbs

My dog was given a Cerenia shot after having episodes of vomiting in the morning. Since then she has been sleeping all day and the vomiting has stopped. She doesn't want to eat and has only been drinking water when I offer it to her. She hasn't pooped or peed since this morning assuming it's because she hasn't eaten or has drank a lot of water today. Is this normal when on Cerenia? Are these side effects of the medication?

These are not side effects of the medications, these are symptoms related directly to the medical condition that caused the vomiting in the first place. if by tomorrow you see no improvement you will need to take her back to the vet.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I have seen lethargy with the injectable form of cerenia not so much with the oral. It is only given once daily so yes it should be pretty much out of her system by 24 hours. Cerenia helps with nausea and eating. I think she is most likely not eating from her pancreatitis not from the cerenia. I would contact your vet to discuss other medication options since you seem to not like the cerenia. Personally I think you should be giving it. Good luck
