My Redbone Coonhound shivers every morning. Is she freezing at night?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Redbone Coonhound | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 41 lbs

Do dogs get cold? Every morning I wake up my dog is downstairs shivering. I believe they do but the girl I live with won't keep the heat on overnight. My dog is a redbone coonhound and has short fur. I hate knowing she's freezing.

Yes, dogs can definitely get cold in temperatures below 70 degrees. Coonhounds were bred for warmer environments, so they will get colder more quickly than dogs with robust coats. If Rogue is shivering in the morning, then she is definitely cold. I've known some people to offer a big blanket for the dog to sleep under; or a space heater can be provided if the roommate is still unwilling to have the heat on overnight. I hope that helps and all is well with Rogue
