Is it okay for my dog to take Apoquel and Piriton together long-term?

Hi is it okay for apoquel and piriton to be taken longterm together?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is no information in the literature on the use of these medications together longterm. In my experience, this has been well-tolerated and has not caused any adverse events in my patients. Good luck and best wishes!

    As far as apoquel is concerned it usually does not cause sedation. If you give the two medications a few days over lapping it should not cause a problem. However at anytime if he is not eating or drinking I would recommend contacting your vet fore further guidance. I hope that helps!

The drug information for Apoquel states that no specific drug interactions have been reported. From Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook: "Marketing information from the drug sponsor states that oclacitinib has been safely used in conjunction with other common medications including vaccines, NSAIDs, antibiotics, parasiticides, anticonvulsants, and allergen immunotherapy (Anon 2013b), but this information could not be found on the drug label." I would be ok with using these two medications together with that information.

Hi today I started lily on apoquel for allergies the vet told me to continue with her piriton for a couple more days Is it alright to give them both together or do I need to stagger them because of sedation ?

Can I give my dog piriton indefinately for allergies?
It can be used as a long term solution for allergies, but only your vet can make the determination if that is safe for Purdie to take indefinitely. Without seeing her in person, I can't tell you to do this as it's illegal for me to say that. I recommend having her seen by your vet to discuss a safe and appropriate length of time to give her piriton. You can also discuss other medications used for dog allergies such as Apoquel, which is safe to give long term and extremely effective for allergies. I hope this helps!

My dog scratches a lot when off of appoquel. Is appoquel safe long term ?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Yes, it appears to be. We have to keep allergic dogs on it longterm as it improves their quality of life so much. You can always use it on an as needed basis as there will be times of the year perhaps winter when his allergies will not be as significant. Good luck and have a great day!

These two medications can be given together without risking any significant interactions. Unfortunately I am not able to give drug dosing recommendations as per guidelines of Petcoach, but this information should be readily available in several veterinary drug formularies or by speaking with your primary care veterinarian.

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. I have several patients that have been on it for a little over a year now and seem to be doing quite well on it. The one thing we routinely monitor is a complete blood count to make sure the immune system is not being suppressed, which Apoquel has been known to do in some patients. Other than that, I really do not see any other side effects of using Apoquel. I hope this helps! Dove takes apoquel for itching when it gets bad. I figured its 1/2 pill every 24 hrs. It doesnt seem to be helping as the pill wears off becuase we give both dogs half a pill for dinner every night. So is it safe to give her benadryl to help with the
Thanks for using Boop by Petco. Yes. Benedryl can be safely used in conjunction with apoquel. But please give her vet a call to discuss her medications- they may want to increase her apoquel dose or switch to a different medication if it isn’t effective currently.

Hi I hv two dogs currently on atopica for allergies, yesterday they had a bath and today they are goin crackers itching is it ok to give them piriton whilst taking atopica?
If your veterinarian has previously advised you to use Piriton (chlorpheniramine) for Jasmine's itching, there should not be any problem using it while she is also taking Atopica - these medications are generally safe to be used together :)

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! While in theory it should be ok, this is not a common combination of medications so it’s effect has not been really studied. For that reason, I would have you checked with your prescribing veterinarian to ensure they are ok with that as they know Poppy’s medical history. Have a great day!

I'm not sure anyone can answer that question and the best thing to do is to call the manufacturer of Apoquel and talk with their veterinary consultant team. I'm not sure we have any long term studies on this drug in dogs.
