My puppy licked a toad and foamed. Is she okay without a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 16 days old | 45 lbs

My Doberman pup got a hold of a common toad this morning. Her mouth began to foam, although no seizures present. I immediately washed her mouth with cold water. It’s been hours after and I see no signs of her mouth foaming. Should I still seek vet care? Best wishes.

As long as she didn't ingest the toad, she should be fine. That was quick thinking and the correct action. Most often, a good rinsing with cool water will remedy the foaming. If she is not showing any symptoms now, she is likely in the clear.
