How to help my pet after a painful bone marrow test if they won't eat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 7 lbs

I asked a similar question yesterday...Mel is going to have his bone marrow tested next week. I know it's rather a painful procedure. How can I best keep him comfortable and in as good of health as possible? He's not much of an eater, and dehydrates frequently.

Your vet can provide IV fluids through the procedure and recovery until he able to be discharge and that can help prevent dehydration and provide electrolytes to keep him strong. They will also provide pain medication for the procedure and send you home with some to keep him comfortable. You can always try canned food or mix tuna juice to entice him while he is recovering. Make sure you have an area set up where he can recover and try to decrease his jumping ability once home
