My cat seems depressed. How do I help her? We have 3 cats. Autumn is the middle child/cat. All cats are on a strict feeding schedule that has never changed. My husband and I have kept the same schedule for over a year. Absolutely nothing has changed
Hello, and thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear that Autumn is feeling unwell. I am worried that she may have an underlying illness, such as infection, or pancreatitis. Cats are notorious for hiding their symptoms when they are in pain, so often lethargy and disinterest in food are the most common warning signs. Since this has been going on for 3 days, I would strongly recommend getting her seen by a vet within the next 24 hours, as cats that do not eat for several days are at risk of developing secondary liver problems. The vet can perform a full physical exam to help pinpoint any areas of discomfort or pain, and assess for dehydration, fever, etc. If necessary, they may recommend blood work or x-rays to get more information. At minimum, they can prescribe supportive medications to help reduce pain, if suspected, and treatments to help improve her appetite and hydration. I hope this helps, and that Autumn feels better soon.
