My anxious dog is pacing and drooling after we brought home a new dog.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 40 lbs

My dog, adopted from the shelter at 5 weeks old, has severe anxiety - even down to being terrified of wind blowing, meat sizzling on the stove, and seeing a spider in the house. She is super sweet and loving though, and we decided to adopt a second dog to hopefully be a leader for her. We just brought our second dog home today, who was spayed this morning, and the new dog is happy and in no way aggressive. However, our first dog is beyond anxious - pacing and drooling like crazy. Any tips?

Poor daisy! I recommend feeding royal canin calm food and using pheromone products also to help the transition of a new house and new dog and also create a safe indoor kennel with a covered crate, soft bed and pet remedy spray so she has somewhere to go if she needs to. They should make friends over the next few days and once they do the presence of a calmer dog is likely to help
