Puppy has a lump after spay and hernia surgery. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

We got a 3 month old boxer puppy from the shelter on Monday and she had surgery the same day of a umbilical hernia and spay surgery the same day we got her. We have kept her calm and not giving her much area to be active she’s been in a kennel until her surgery and only out to go to the bathroom and right back now where she was opened there is a lump and I’m not sure if that happens or if her hernia surgery is coming undone and I need to take her in.

It needs to be rechecked. It can either be a hernia from the incision or holding well or a seroma which is not uncommon in hyper dogs or puppies that jump up. A seroma will go away on its in with time and cause no trouble. If the incision is failing then she will need surgery to have t repaired. The only way to know if to have someone actually feel the area to be sure
