My rabbit's hock is pink and painful. Is it sore hocks or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed | 8 months and 9 days old | 3.5 lbs

I was checking my rabbit hocks, and when I touch the pink scab spot, she flinched and seemed to have felt pain. I did think that a pink spot under the fur on the hock was normal but am now feeling as if it's sore hocks?

Rabbits get a condition called pododermatitis very easily which is essentially where the pressure points on the feet get inflamed. It is relatively common and should be treated if they appear red and sore or infected. If it's really bad you should take her to the vet for antibiotics, otherwise you can try bathing the hocks at home in salty water, drying them off then applying a topical healing cream once daily. It is also important to make sure she has soft clean bedding to reduce pressure and moisture.
