Is swelling, redness, or opening normal after dog spay stitch removal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 8 months and 21 days old | 50 lbs

So I’ve asked a question about the situation on my dogs healing process after getting spayed about almost 3 weeks ago and the vet who replied said to take Nani to the vet to get the bottom stitched remove because it could cause irritation while the rest of the stitches will dissolve. We took Nani to the vet today to get the stitch removed and this is how it looks like now. Was wondering if that swelling and redness will go down and if that small opening is normal? Thank you

Nani may have had a small stitch abscess at that spot. That can sometimes happen at either end of the incision where the knots are tied. The best treatment is to remove that stitch and allow the small area to drain. This should heal by itself as long as Nani does not make it worse by chewing and biting at it. Keep the area clean and you can also apply a very thin layer of Neosporin to that spot once or twice a day for a few days.
