Cat with heart disease breathing hard. Should I give more furosemide?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 lbs

I have been administering furosemide to my cat for heart disease 12.5 mg 2Xs a day. My cat is breathing very heavily tonight. Should I administer an extra dose now (2:45am) and take him in tomorrow morning to the vet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Frank! If Frank is having trouble breathing it is best to have him seen sooner than later. It is fine to give an extra dose of furosemide but he may need oxygen and an IV dose of furosemide. It is best for Frank to be seen as soon as possible. I hope this helps and I wish Frank the best!
