Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 6 months and 3 days old | 44 lbs
Our 6 month old pup has been diagnosed with demodectic mange when he was at the vet for neutering. He is mixed breed but one quarter collie. The vet is suggesting using an off label product so it may be ivermectin, I can ask. Is this safe since he is one quarter collie.

No Ivermectin is not safe, if your vet chooses to use ivermectin he must do an MDR-1 blood test prior to that, this test will reveal if your dog has the gene that causes sensitivity to ivermectin (and other drugs). if you dog is MDR-1 positive there are alternatives, personally i use Bravecto to treat Demodex in all dogs, it's very effective and works better than ivermectin in my experience, it is also safer than ivermectin.
