Why is my dog shaking, tail tucked, and out of it after peeing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 75 lbs

I have a 6 year old black lab. This morning I walked him out to use the bathroom and after urinating he proceeded to lay down in the wet cold grass. He starting shaking with his tail tucked in and seemed kind of out of it. We immediately took him to the vet and left him for blood work and observation. This might not have anything to do with this but we have had serious issues with extreme barking whenever my husband goes out of town and goes to bed early leaving my two kids and myself alone

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Wager! I don't think his behavioral barking when your husband is out of town explains what happened this morning on your walk. I think what Wager did was a medical problem. I am glad he is at your Vet. Possible causes are: he was painful, had a seizure, heart problem (arrhythmia), sudden bleed into his belly or around his heart. I hope you have some answers and feel free to repost if you have additional questions. I hope Wager recovers quickly!
