Why is my 7-month-old cat sneezing, drooling, and making jaw motions?

7 month old cat with sneezing and nasal discharge now shes drooling some and repeatedly moving lower jaw and making chewing motions. outside cat. still drinking some water

Poor Maizey! I would be concerned that she has a dental problem causing the sneezing, nasal discharge, drooling, and chewing motions that you are seeing. A dental problem such as a broken tooth or a tooth root abscess could be the cause of this, and it would lead to her drinking less water due to pain. I would have her seen by a vet for this today or tomorrow. The vet can examine her mouth, and discuss performing a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing if needed. Good luck, I hope this helps!

I would not be overly concerned about the drooling as the salivary glands can be quite active when asleep and when particularly content. However, the other symptoms wiuld make me think he has a viral infection causing a touch of cat flu. This is quite common and the viruses tend to flare up then die down. There is little that can be done to treat a virus but it would be worth having him checked as virus can make way for bacteria which does warrant treatment. When you are at the vet mention the drooling and have them check his teeth just in case.

Sneezing and drooling can be from many different things. It is not recommended that you give your cat any over the counter medications as most are toxic to cats. If his symptoms persist for longer than 24 hours then he should see a vet. It could be an upper respiratory infection or he may have a dental/tooth infection. He could have ingested or inhaled something toxic. I cannot say for sure.

Poor Neptune! He could be suffering from dental problems, a respiratory infection, or allergies. All of these could cause the sneezing and drooling. I would have Neptune seen by a vet tomorrow for a physical exam, blood tests, and urinalysis. With these tests, the vet can diagnose what is causing his sneezing and drooling, and can discuss treatment options with you. If, for example, he had dental problems, then he would benefit from a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing.

Drooling can be a sign of pain, nausea, or problems with the mouth. Occasionally cats with upper respiratory infections that cause sneezing can have a virus (calicivirus) that can also cause ulcers in the mouth which could lead to drooling. I would recommend having Coco examined by a veterinarian - you can establish care with a vet and also have her mouth examined.

Drooling can be a sign of nausea, oral pain, licking something with a bitter taste, difficulty swallowing, etc. If she is eating, then I am not quite sure why she is doing this! Cats with upper respiratory infections can do some weird things. Maybe the secretions in her nose are making it difficult to swallow. Keep her nose clean by using a warm wet wash cloth to remove the dried debris so that she can breath easier. You can also use a humidifier or place her in a steamy bathroom for 15 minutes at a time to help break up dried secretions in her nose and sinuses. My cat is 18 and she seems to be sneezing a lot and snot flies everywhere sometimes, this has been going on for over 6 months. Also, sometimes after the sneezing fit her head/mouth smells bad, any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?
Poor Kitty! It could be that she is suffering from severe dental disease. This can be common in elderly cats, and it would cause her mouth to smell very badly. As for the sneezing, that could be caused by a respiratory infection or allergies. The nasal discharge could also be caused by a respiratory infection and allergies, but cancer is also a possibility. I would have Kitty seen by a vet in the morning. The vet can examine her mouth, do a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, urinalysis, and x-rays to diagnose what is causing all of her symptoms. Once the cause is found, the vet can discuss treatment options.

My cat is 7 months old and constantly drools. It soaks the whole front of her and it looks like she's in a lot of pain.
I can see that Zarrah has a lot of saliva at the corners of her mouth. If this has occurred only recently, it can be a sign of nausea or hypersalivation associated with oral pain. This can be caused by toxin ingestion, sores or injuries inside the mouth, or dental disease. Certain neurological conditions that prevent swallowing can also be to blame. She should be seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine exactly what is going on and begin the appropriate treatment.

My cat has been sneezing non stoo since yesterday. Vet visit today and blood work looked normal. Suggested lysene which I bought. Now is drooling excessively and her normally pale pink cold nose is dark pink and warm and very sensitive to the touch.
It sounds like your vet diagnosed her with an upper respiratory infection. Depending on the virus that causes this, the signs can appear in the eyes, nose or mouth. There is a virus called calicivirus that can cause sneezing and ulcers in the mouth. These can be quite painful and make the cat not want to eat. I typically recommend feeding a canned diet so she can lap it up rather than chew it. A/D is a good diet for this. It is made by Hill's and is available by prescription through a veterinarian. I also will sometimes prescribe pain medication to keep them comfortable and eating while they have ulcers in their mouths. I would recommend calling your veterinarian in the morning to discuss these things. We don't want her to go too long without eating.

I'm sorry to hear that Princess isn't feeling well. Her sneezing, coughing, lethargy and drooling could all be due to an upper respiratory infection caused by either a virus and/or bacteria. Many cats are chronically infected with herpesvirus and/or calicivirus, which can shed from time to time and cause respiratory signs and secondary bacterial infections. Princess' vet will be able to examine her and determine if she needs antibiotics or other medications. I hope that she's feeling better soon!

Hi, and thanks for your question. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a chronic rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
