My female budgie has a painful lump near her vent. Is it a tumor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | spayed | 9 months old | 1.10231 lbs

I was checking her vent and I noticed a lump above her right side. It was a bead like lump and when I touched it, it must have hurtled because she flew off my finger. There’s no vets nearby and I don’t know what to do. I tried to see what it looked like but the area there were covering it. I checked my other bird and he’s male and didn’t have one. Is it because she’s a female or tumour I don’t want to loose my little buddy, like my other budgie :( :( Plz help, write as much info <3

There is no way for me to tell you exactly what is going on with Cookie. A picture would beneficial so if you can post again with a photo that may be more helpful. Please keep in mind that we cannot diagnose over the internet. We can only give you ideas as to what may be going on. There is a bump that is sometimes present in that area when they are getting ready to lay eggs or incubating. So that is a possibility. Another option is a fatty deposit which is also common. There are many other things it could be from an abscess to a tumor to a abnormal feather follicle. If she is eating and drinking and acting fine then I would just monitor it for now. If she starts showing and signs of illness or discomfort then I would say you need to find an avian vet to take her to for an exam.
