My dog's eye is red, droopy, and has discharge. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 4 days old | 27.3 lbs

My dog (6 months, female, miniature goldendoodle) had a bit of discharge this morning in her left eye. It now in the afternoon and it is progressively getting worse. The eye is now drooping and is showing redness. I'm really not sure what my next step should be. Her energy levels are the same but she is pawing at her eye. I cleaned it with a wet cloth but she is still pawing and then licking her paw.

I’m sorry Riley’s eye is uncomfortable. A corneal scratch, allergic conjunctivitis, or infectious conjunctivitis are all likely possibilities. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. If it is a scratch then you want to address that early so it doesn’t become infected. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon.
