Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 5 years and 10 months old | 48 lbs

Yesterday our dog appeared with three open sores, look like they were blisters and now open.. small amt of bleeding.. Not sure if she got into something or not. She does not seem to be in pain. just wipes at it when we put antibiotic cream on it.... Should we go to Vet or see what happens.

Oh goodness. Those wounds look angry. I would highly encourage you to have her seen by a veterinarian. Bacterial or fungal infection is possible, but also immune mediated issues are possible as well. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

She could have a skin infection, allergic dermatitis, mites, or an auto immune disease. She needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a skin scrape, cytology, culture, and/or biopsy to diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. She may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid, or other medications to treat. More than likely, it is not contagious but it really needs to be diagnosed to know for sure.

It doesn’t look like a simple rash. It could be a deep skin/follicle infection, autoimmune disease, mites, among a few other things. I would recommend that you have Lulu examined by a vet to see what could be going on. The vet may need to take a skin scraping to see what is the cause, then they can initiate treatment.

Poor girl! It may be demodex (a type of mange), it could be a bacterial infection, or these spots could be some type of auto-immune disease in the skin such as pemphigus. http://download.skyscape.com/download/ota/5mvetcf5/documents/pdf/pemphigus.pdf This is something that should be evaiuated by a vet sooner rather than later, as delay in proper treatment (depending on the diagnosis), or using the wrong treatment, could make things worse. I try to offer at home solutions when I can, but this is a situation where I really think you should get her in to see your vet. Thanks for asking PetCoach !
