Why is my puppy's lip pink after shots? Is it a vaccine reaction?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 13 days old | 12 lbs

My 9 week old german shepherd puppy recieved 2 shots 3 days ago and the morning after he recieved the shots I noticed his upper lip on one side was pink as if the black fur around his lip was gone, the only thing I can think of is maybe it’s from the shots? I’ve been feeding him the same food the breeder I got him from has been feeding him, he’s still acting as if nothing is wrong and he’s not scratching at it, will this go away on it’s own? Is there anything I can do?

It is possible that is a vaccine reaction but I have not personally seen it manifest that way. If it is a vaccine reaction and it is localized to that one spot I would not worry at this time and just monitor it. If it worsens or does not resolve in a couple of days you should take him back to your vet for an exam. Also, be sure to mention it to the vet before his next vaccines. In the meantime you can get some Benadryl cream (you can buy at any drugstore) and just put a very THIN layer over the affected area twice a day to see if that helps.
