My dog wheezes loudly, even waking up at night. Should I be worried?

My pitbull mix makes a loud wheezing sound, and it can be brief or as long as a few minutes. She wakes herself up at night with it sometimes. Should I be worried?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the wheezing noise is new then I would have Cherry examined. It could be a upper respiratory infection or kennel cough. If Cherry is overweight then that can affect the loudness of her breathing as well. If this has been going on for a while, Cherry could have an overlong soft palate or everted saccules that just vibrate when she is sleeping and snoring. I would take a video to show your Vet if you take her in. I hope this helps and I wish Cherry a speedy recovery!
