My puppy's leg is healing, can she get worse without showing signs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cockapoo | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 24 days old | 7 lbs

My 4 Mo old puppy fell today and hurt her leg. She was screaming, limping and wouldn't put her leg down. Vet said she smashed her growth plate but it wasn't serious. She isn't limping anymore and is getting around fine. Could she do more damage without showing signs?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she is showing improvement, that would be an indication that whatever happened is resolving. Usually, they do not tend to damage the affected area more without showing clinical signs as long as you follow the instructions from your veterinarian in terms of restricting her activity for at least 2-3 weeks post injury. This can help tremendously even if it was just a soft tissue injury or something else mild. As long as she continues to improve, it is likely that she is not causing any more damage to the previously affected area. Good luck and have a great night!
