My dog ate chocolate and wrappers 24 hours ago. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Catahoula Leopard Dog | Female | spayed | 3 years and 10 months old | 70 lbs

My dog ate some chocolate last night, but I didn't find out til this morning. She threw up once, not sure when, which had candy and wrappers (milky way, snickers, 100 grand, m&me, and york). She's been lethargic all day but she's a bit better now than this morning. It's been probably 24 hours since she ate the chocolate. Does she still need to be taken to the vet?

It's best to take her to the vet considering the amount of chocolate ingested is unknown and she was vomiting (an early sign of chocolate toxicity). It's also concerning that she ate the wrappers, because these can cause problems in the intestines as well. The vets will be able to monitor Rane for further signs of toxicity and give medication as necessary to keep things from getting worse. I hope that helps and all is well with Rane.
