How much water should my 4.2kg labradoodle puppy be drinking each day?

The average dog drinks about a 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight in a day. If your puppy weighs almost 10 pounds she would need between 5 and 10 ounces of water for the day to stay hydrated.

    Congrats on your new puppy! A puppy's water intake will fluctuate from day to day based on their food intake and exercise level. However on average Most need about an ounce of fluids per pound of body weight per day, so a 35 pound dog needs a bit over 3 and a half cups of clean water daily.

    You should always offer him free access to water. 20-70ml/kg/day is the average water intake. However, the key is not how much he is drinking, but he should be urinating 4-6 times a day at this age. If he is not urinating properly, then it means he is not taking in enough water. Adding water to his food or feeding him wet food can help increase his intake to adequate levels.

My rule of thumb is approximately 30mL per pound. It isn’t always exact and that’s ok! So if she is 1.5-2 pounds then she would need about 45-60mL per day. There is 30 mL in an ounce so 1.5-2 ounces a day. This will vary depending on activity level (may drink more if active) and whether she eats canned food (will drink less because canned food has water in it). This should also increase as she grows. Do puppies need more water than adult dogs? I've read dogs can need about 1 oz per pound of body weight every day, but is that true for puppies as well?
Hello, puppies in general have a higher demand of water per body weight. It does not always mean that your puppy is going to drink as much or more water than an adult dog in total volume, but the puppy will drink more water per pound than an adult dog. I can't tell if my 5 month old lab, out and husky mix puppy is getting enough water. If I fill up his bowl he stands there and true to drink it all at once. He likes to run around outside and tries to eat rocks. I don't know what to do.
Chewing rocks and other strange objects is common in puppies. It is part of their oral exploration of their environment as they develop. It is also common while they are teething. Try not prevent the behaviour if you can by replacing the rocks with more appropriate chew toys. Most dogs need about an ounce of fluids per pound of body weight per day, so a 10-pound dog needs a bit over a cup of clean water daily. I would advise measuring this amount out in fresh water every morning. Then monitor if the bowl is empty by th end of the day. It is normal for a dog to spread out his drinking throughout the day. I have a 8 week old labradoodle and she exercises for about 30 min a day and drinks a lot of water but I have no clue g=hoe much to feed her
Every bag of dog food has different feeding instructions because it is based on the individual calories of the food. She will need to eat a puppy food and if she is expected to be over 55 pounds as an adult, she needs to eat a large breed puppy food. Feed the amount recommended on the bag based upon her bodyweight. As she grows, you will need to increase the food. Your veterinarian can help you to determine if she has a good body condition score. Your dog should be drinking approximately 586 ml or 2 cups & 4 oz of water a day. if he is eating wet food he will drink much less as there is about 80% water in wet food. make sure the water is fresh, cool and clean.

Should I be worried if my puppy is drinking almost twice her daily requirement of water? She is drinking almost 700ml of water.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Puppies and kittens drink a lot more water than adults. A general rule is that a puppy needs about 1/2 cup every 2 hours and when she gets older about 1/2oz to 1oz per pound of body weight per day. More if she is very active. It does seem like 23.5 oz per day is a lot. If Frankie is very active then it might be ok. If she isn't I would have your Vet run some blood work to check her kidney values. My 6 week puppy eats dry food only if I put water in it to get mushy, then may drink a little of what's in there but I can not seem to get her to drink water out of her water bowl. Is this normal for not to really be drinking water?
This is VERY normal. If you are adding water to her food then she likely doesn't need any additional water. Being only 2 pounds, she really only needs about 1/4-1/2 cup of water per day to maintain hydration.

The amount of water your puppy should drink will depend on whetheer he is fed dry or wet food and his weight. On average a dog needs at the most 60ml/kg of water within 24 hours. Sometimes dogs drink more due to liver disease or a congenital liver condition (calle "shunt"), excessive heat , or even out of a bad habit. There is also a disease called diabetes insipidus and excessive drinking can also be psychogenic. If your puppy drinks more than 60ml/kg over 24 hrs in an AC environment, you will need to take him to a vet for an exam and diagnostics to find out the cause.

My 7 week lab puppy seems to not be able to get enough water. Today he has had 11 oz, but goes crazy at his empty dish or licks rain water. If I were to give him more water now he would drink so fast like he hadn't had water in days. Is this normal
If it's a warm day out, or he just exercised, it's normal that he would be thirsty. A dog normally drinks 50-60ml per kg of bodyweight, so without knowing Reminton's weight, I can't say for sure if he is drinking an excessive amount. I would weight him, convert his weight to kg (divide his weight by 2.2), and multiple that number by 60 to get the number of mL he should be drinking per day. If he is drinking more than that, then that isn't normal, and I would take him into a vet for an exam.
