Why is my old cat not eating, hiding, and showing signs of kidney disease?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

My cat has been with us for about 15 years. How old he is I do not really know, because he just turned up here and decide to stay. We tried to find his owner in various ways but no luck Lately although he is hungry he ate very little at a time and a week ago he refused to go out. He remained in one place - the bathroom - and I suspect that he has kidney problems. I could smell his urine but it was not very strong. I never saw him passing urine or even having a stool.

Older cats are prone to many diseases, including kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, infections, cancer, etc. He should be examined by a vet for a work-up with blood-work and a urinalysis to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat and manage his problems.
