Why won't my canary sing to me, its caregiver, but sings to strangers?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Angel: This is just a general, Curious question about Canaries. Ringo, whether in Molt or out of it, won't Chirp to me, at his cage. He chirps to my husband and strangers, though. I am his Caregiver - I feed him; clip his nails; clean his cage; and give him light, Spray Showers, at times. But, he only looks at me. I even Chirp to him! Why doesn't he Chirp to ME?

As difficult as it may be, do not take it as a personal insult. It is simply his preference. It may change some day, it may not. I understand you completely though. I am the main caregiver for an African Grey that will attempt to inflict grievous bodily harm to me any chance she gets, yet she is an absolute doll to my wife.
