Puppy hair changed color after grooming, and one nail is pink. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 months and 7 days old | 3.4 lbs

When I first got my puppy his hair was fluffy and pitch black I took him to a groomers and they cut his hair and now his hair is growing back grey plus I noticed one of his nails from his left back paw is pinkish white instead of black like the rest of his nails. Should I worry?

The nail different color is probably normal, it is very common. regarding the hair it is recommended not to have your dog groomed until the age of 6 months, the reason is they lose their puppy coat at this age and start growing their permanent hair, having them groomed prior to this will often result in what you have experienced. in most cases though it will eventually resolve after the age of 6 months.
