How to train a young, temperamental horse to do basic tricks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Horse | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 11 months old

I want to train my horse some basic tricks, for example, bobbing her head, bowing, kissing, hugging, small stuff like that and later on, maybe get higher on the tricks. But she has a temper, and I sometimes don't know where to start on my tricks plan plus she is young so i want to use her young age to make her learn more. Could you please guide me on how to train her and teach her tricks?

Hi there, Start by using treats to encourage her to do the trick. Focus on one trick and a time, and then once she's learned that practice it daily. Horses need repetition and praise. For her to learn tricks, she'll need positive reinforcement when she does well and not be punished if she hasn't learned it yet. Keep things consistent and make it fun for her and you'll do well. Best wishes to you and Hope. Thanks for using Pet Coach!
