Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alsatian | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 4 months old

Okay: follow up question to my other question. Would teaching Zeus the command "leave it" work? If so how do i embellish it into when passing a dog/person.

Unfortunately, we don't have access to your previous questions, so I can't tell you if "leave it" works for your situation. I can say that once a dog understands the meaning of "leave it", it can be used in various situations, such as passing someone while on a walk. Another way to keep your dog's attention on you and not on the passersby is to have Zeus make eye contact with you as you walk. This starts by having excellent control of him paying attention to you. As he is walking about the room, ask for "eyes" or use a command like "look" or "at me" or similar. He gets a treat as soon as he makes eye contact. You will find that he is more frequently looking at you for direction. Continue to treat this behavior even when you don't ask for it specifically. Then try doing this in a public setting. When his gaze shifts to something more interesting, ask for "eyes" again and reward appropriately. It can progress to keeping his eyes on you during the entire walk - you may also want to teach a very close heel where he uses his body against your leg as you walk so that he doesn't need to look at where he is going.
