Why is my cat pooping yellow, toothpaste-like, and more often?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 6.5 lbs

HI, my cat is pooping yellow, in the form of toothpaste feces. Usually, he poops once a day, now he poops twice each day, every morning and evening. I found there are no warms in his feces. He likes eating grass in the backyard. He is not having a fever. His appetite is still good. I feed him some carrot, lactobacillus and less amount of dry food. Is that correct? What medicine shall I pick up for him? BTW: he got vaccination 3 times when he was a kitten and now he's turning up to 2 years old.

Hi there. It sounds like Dora either has a GI infection (from a virus, bacteria or parasite) or he's become allergic to the protein in his food. You can try switching his food to a hypoallergenic diet (I like the hydrolyzed protein diet from Royal Canin). Keep in mind it can take several weeks for the loose stool to resolve after switching. Ideally Dora should be seen by a vet before doing this. If he has a simple infection, you vet can check his feces and figure out what's causing the loose stool and prescribe medication to stop the loose stool. The carrot and probiotic are just fine to use. He also needs his vaccines updated. Hope that helps with Dora! Thanks for using Pet Coach!

If Dora is still having loose stool, I would recommend having her stool checked for intestinal parasites. If that is not the problem then I would switch her food and add a probiotic such as Purina fortiflora which can be found online quite easily or at your local pet store. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
