My rabbit is eating less after spay surgery. Is this normal?

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed | 7 months and 26 days old | 3 lbs

My rabbit got spayed two days ago and though she is eating, she seems to be not as hungry so she is only eating half of her portion. Is that normal?

First off, good on you for getting Daisy spayed! A spay is a major abdominal surgery, and she will be tired and in some pain from it. It is normal to see a reduction in appetite after a surgery like this, but it's great that she is still eating. I would continue to keep an eye on her, and her appetite should return to normal over the next couple of days. If her appetite decreases or she stops eating, then I would take her back into the vet for a check up. I hope this helps :-)

Your vet should have it, most veterinary clinics that treat rabbits have this or something similar in stock. your rabbits should not need it though, if everything goes well, most chances are they will get back to eating within several hours after the surgery.

I got my rabbit spayed yesterday morning and she has barely eaten since and I don't think she has pooped.
Rabbits have very sensitive GI systems and signs of inappetence and constipation could suggest a serious underlying illness. It is very important that you take Emmie back to the vet who spayed her right away. These signs could be because if a reaction to the anesthesia or they could suggest a more serious issue including infection or pain from the surgery. Good luck! I hope Emmie is feeling better soon.

My rabbit hasn't eaten since 30 hours ago because of her neautering is that normal?
This is not normal. Typically when I neuter a rabbit they are eating with in minutes of waking up from anesthesia. I would take him to the vet immediately . Anorexia in rabbits can lead to there intestines not functioning properly. This is a big concern. It is possible the anesthesia or pain is making Bianca not want to eat. I would try to force feed with critical care and get to a vet for more aggressive help

Spaying is a major abdominal surgery, and it's not surprising that Harley isn't very active. It's good that she is eating and defecating, so just keep an eye on her for now. If she isn't more active tomorrow, give her vet a call.

Since Blossom is still eating and producing normal stool I would not worry just yet. She is probably very uncomfortable from her surgery. Continue to monitor her closely and if she stops eating then take her to your vet for a recheck.

My dog has no appetite after spay surgery. Is this ok?
Occasionally after spaying, dogs will have no appetite for the first 12-24 hours. This may be due to the lingering effects of [anesthesia](https://www.petcoach.co/article/pets-and-anesthesia-everything-you-need-to-know) and/or some post operative discomfort. If she still has no appetite two days after spaying, I would be concerned that she may be in [pain](https://www.petcoach.co/article/how-to-measure-your-dogs-pain) or there may be another underlying concern affecting her[ recovery](https://www.petcoach.co/article/6-ways-to-rest-your-pet-after-surgery-or-injury). Call your veterinarian to discuss your concerns. He or she may recommend a recheck, and some more [pain medication](https://www.petcoach.co/article/7-pain-relief-solutions-for-dogs). In the meantime, take a look at her incision site. If it is red, swollen and hot to the touch, she needs to see your veterinarian right away as these symptoms may indicate infection. My cat got fixed today but since i brought her home she hasn't eaten and she isn't moving around at all. Im guessing she's in pain because she had major surgery but i'm concerned. Is this normal?
A spay is a major abdominal surgery, and yes Cinderella will have some pain and be tired from the anesthesia. You can see a loss of appetite the first night, but by tomorrow morning, she should be eating some again. Keep an eye on her and if she doesn't eat in the morning, give her vet a call. The onesies may be uncomfortable or stressful for her. Try taking them off at feeding time. Watch her closely though so she doesn't get to her incision. You can also warm her food slightly or mix in a teaspoon of plain baby food to stimulate the appetite.

I'm sorry that Daisy is not feeling well! Even a few days of not eating is cause for concern in rabbits, as it can slow down their gastrointestinal motility, and be life threatening. Her loss of appetite can be caused by many conditions ranging from tooth issues to overgrowth of certain intestinal bacteria or even joint pain. Daisy should be seen by a vet as she likely needs fluids and nutritional support while a diagnosis is made. I hope Daisy gets well soon!

If Daisy is not eating properly then it would be normal for her to poop less. She may also not be drinking enough. You can try to offer some fresh lettuce and veggies. If Daisy still refuses to eat or does not eat properly you will need to take her to a veterinarian familiar with rabbit medicine for a check up of her mouth and teeth. Tooth problems (overgrowth or malocclusions) are common in rabbits as are tooth abscesses. The vet will want to to an x-ray of the head and assess the situation. If tooth correction is requires, it will have to be done under general anesthesia, if done properly.
