My cat has a hard bump on its chin. What is it and should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Male | neutered | 2 years and 7 months old

Hello, I noticed a long (just over an inch), hard, raised bumb on my cats chin with no openings for breathing holes and some specks of scabbing possibly from itching. I am wondering what it could possibly be and if it would be wise to rush to the vet or first observe for changes as I can’t afford to see the vet if I don’t have to. Thanks for your help! Diana

It could be an abscess or a bruise or seroma if Leo fell and hit his chin. I would just keep an eye on it over the next couple days to see what happens. If it gets bigger, breaks open, or seems to cause him pain then it should get checked out by a vet. Also, keep an eye on his appetite to make sure that he is still eating normally.
