What to do when dogs refuse to walk? Is holding pee/poop harmful?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Every morning I take my 2 dogs out for walks so they can use the bathroom sometimes they are happy they go running and playing but sometimes they don’t even want to move they don’t listen to me and i feel like If they don’t go their stomach is going to explote or something. What should I do when they don’t want to walk? Is it bad that they hold their pee/poop?

I would continue to walk them, mostly because if they don’t go outdoors then they are likely to have an accident in the house an hour or so later. May consider giving them a treat right after they potty and try to teach them a word associated with it. That way you can tell them “to go” . I hope this helps a bit! Thank you for using Pet Coach.
