Why would fiber cause diarrhea if my dog ate too much broccoli?

I’m a little confused I was just reading a post that someone else wrote that her dog had gotten into grocery bag and ate a bunch of broccoli And wanted to know if the dog would be all right one of the vets responded with the answer that since broccoli is high in fiber to watch out for diarrhea my question is why would something higher in fiber cause diarrhea.
