Is shark cartilage safe for my dog's arthritis? What about mercury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 10 years and 2 months old | 19 lbs

Can I give shark cartilage to my cavaliers? Or is there too much mercury in it. I was advised it was good for joints and as an anti inflammatory and she has arthritis.

Shark cartilage is a holistic supplement utilized for joint support. I do not know of any scientific studies that have been conducted to support its usefulness, but I can think of no reason that it would cause harm to your dog. However, there may be better or more certain options to address inflammation such as a anti-inflammatory drug or glucosamine chondroitin. Hope this helps.
