Can my dog take heartworm & flea/tick meds during whipworm treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 21.3 lbs

Hello, recently, my dog had whipworm, he went through deworming medication but they want him to take it again three weeks and three months to make sure. Am I able to give him his normal heart worm and flea and tick preventative even though he was on this medication and is scheduled to take y again soon?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is a great question! Yes, you should continue to give Kirby his monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention. The medication to kill the whipworms will not prevent heartworm or fleas/ticks and therefore he will still require the monthly preventions. Kisses to Kirby!
