What causes a dog to get a fungus on their toe nail?

It is usually an infection of the nail bed. Dogs with allergies are more prone to nail bed infections as are dogs with hypothyroidism. However, I have had several patients who do not have these problems and have had nail bed infections. I hope Papi improves soon!
