Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 8 lbs

Our 1 yr. old cat , Patches, has a small wound from we’re nit sure what on her underside. It’s not red around the wound but she’s very lethargic and just wants to lay around. We’ve cleaned the wound and put neo sporin on it and gave her a baby (81mg) aspirin. She us drooling some. Any suggestions?

It may be an abscess or bite wound. Ideally, Patches should be examined by your veterinarian. An abscess should be lanced drained and flushed. Antibiotics, as well as pain medication, may be indicated after. Do not give her any more aspirin. Cats are very sensitive to aspirin since they do not metabolize like we do. It can cause gastric ulcers and may prolong bleeding time. The drooling may be due to nausea from gastrointestinal upset. Be sure to tell your veterinarian when you gave the aspirin and confirm the dose given.
