Why is my dog's eye dark red and bloody this morning? Is it serious?

Why is my dogs right eye surrounded with dark red blood and not the right one I found her like this this morning can you please help me

I would recommend taking Princess in for a veterinary exam. Eyes tend to heal quickly or get bad quickly. The one picture looks similar to a scleral hematoma, but the other picture looks like something is going on in the cornea. The cornea can be an emergency situation if there is an ulcer present. The veterinarian will do some diagnostics like an eye stain and prescribe appropriate medications for her. Eye injuries are painful, so she might need pain meds.     This is called scleral hemorrage and there may be some conjunctivitis as well. A check up would be needed as more diffuse haemorrages and corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Hello. This looks like hyphema, the presence of blood in the anterior chamber of the eye. This can occur from anything like a simple trauma to the eye, to cancer, so treatment really depends on the cause. If there is any chance there was some trauma to the eye ( being hit with a ball could do this ), then treatment is nothing & the blood will reabsorb over time. If this is due to an infection or something more serious, then it may need to be treated. I am not sure why your veterinarians are unhelpful, perhaps you need to find someone else. I can tell you that the rest of the eye looks quiet & non-painful, so it is not an emergency, but I would have this evaluated at your earliest convenience. Thanks for contacting Boop by Petco.

Hi, thabks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Princess! The pictures are blurry but I am very concerned about her left eye. I'm worried about proptosis (eye has popped out of the socket) or glaucoma. Both are emergencies. I recommend that you take Princess to the emergency room. Good luck!

My dog got hit in the eye and now her eye is surrounded by blood. Do i need to take her to the vet asap?
It appears she has black eye. It is safest to have her check by a vet to make sure there are no scratches on the eye and it can still close completely to prevent a dry eye. They may also be able to prescribe pain medication

My dog got into a 1 second fight with a cat. Afterwards, I noticed there was red stuff around her eye, and it was blood! She has a little glop of blood on her eyeball, however the scratch seems to be on the eyeball itself; not the pupil.
Please take her in right away to have the eye checked. If the claw punctured her cornea it can become infected and without proper treatment she could lose sight in that eye. They will stain the eye to check for corneal damage and start the appropriate treatment right away. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Princess.

What is in my dogs eye and what can I do to fix it
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Oh goodness! Poor Paris! Sadly Paris needs to see a Vet for her eye. A painful red eye needs immediate Veterinary care. Possible causes are: a corneal ulcer, infection, allergies, trauma, inflammation or glaucoma. There are specific medications that are safe for the eye and she needs a diagnosis first. My dogs eyes are blood shot and completely misplaced. She tries to open her eyes and when she does her eye is in a completely different direction. I'm trying to get her to look at me but she can't focus either eye on me.. I don't know what's wrong??
It is difficult to see in the picture but if her eyes are really red then she should be examined by a vet right away. She could have glaucoma, corneal ulcers, or an infection that needs to be treated. Glaucoma can cause loss of vision if not treated quickly. Dogs have a third eyelid that will sometimes be visible when the dog has an eye problem so you may be seeing the third eyelid covering her eye, if you aren't able to see her eye. Hope she gets better soon!

Bleed in eye. Should I be concerned? First picture is 2 weeks old when first noticed. 2nd picture is from today. There is now a milky spot.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I’m not surprised at the progression in Gracie’s eye- the cloudy spot is likely a clot from the blood. Based on location I’m guessing this was trauma (whacked her head playing or running, fighting with another dog, etc etc). However, it’s impossible to tell without an eye exam exactly which compartment of the eye that clot is in. My concern is that if it’s in the front chamber of the eye, it could signal uveitis- which in turn can hint at serious systemic disease (fungal infections, tick borne diseases, etc.). Long story short, I’d have the vet check it out to make sure it’s not something we should be more worried about. Best of luck to you and Gracie!

My boerboel has bloodied eye..not sure how he got it....is he ok
A bloodied eye is never ok. You should take Maxi to your vet right away to check the eye and make sure it wasn't completely punctured. He likely had some trauma to the eye and hopefully it isn't too serious (depending on a complete eye exam) and can be treated right away before the eye gets infected or any permanent vision problems develop. I would not recommend placing anything in the eye until further exam by your vet.

Based on the picture it does look like there could be blood inside his eye, which is called hyphema. It likely means there is inflammation present within the eye, which could be related to the original injury. If he has vision problems in that eye or its painful (squinting, tearing, or pawing at it), I would definitely take him back to the vet. They will likely want to check the pressure within the eye and look at his retina. He may need drops to help with the inflammation.

My dog who is 14 years old seems to be having a somewhat teary eye and the white of the eye is blood red.
Redness and excessive tearing are signs of an eye infection or some type of injury, such as a corneal scratch or ulcer. You can try rinsing the eye with plain saline eye wash if you have some available, in case there is a hair or something else that might be causing irritation. If this doesn't help, Pete will need to be seen by a vet - he/she can use a special stain to check for any injury to the cornea, and will likely prescribe antibiotic eye drops to treat the problem.
