Guinea pig itchy, skin worse, eye affected after parasite shot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Female | unspayed | 1lb

Hello! A few weeks ago I asked a question about my guinea pig that had some wounds appear on her skin and someone suggested it could be ringworm. I took her to a vet and he told me that it looks like parasites and gave her a shot. Since then, her skin condition worsened and she seems to be itchy all the time. She keeps eating a lot and doesn t seem to be troubled. I am worried about her eye mostly, since it seems to be affected badly. If it would be possible, I would love to get a second opinion

Mites or ring worm are still my top differentials. Sometimes when mites are dying after an injection they do seem to be a bit itchier. I assume your veterinarian has you coming back for a follow up injection? In my patients who have been similar to Minnie some have benefited from a steroid injection and some antibiotics while the mite therapy is taking affect. I do not think you can completely rule out ringworm either at this point. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
